从句的asked， 包含主句的smiled 和 pointed 都用了一般过去时，说明这三个动作都已经先后发生，且不延续。故用when或 as，由于这两个连词引导的从句，谓语动词都可以是非延续性动词。过去时的 asked 表示终止，非延续，when 和 as 都表示 “问完后”。对于while 就不可以了，谓语动词需要延续，除非把它改为过去进行时。
